Acolytes
Following in the historic tradition of acolyting over the centuries, all 5th and 6th grade youth are welcome to serve in this capacity during the 9:15 am worship between World Communion Sunday (the first Sunday in October) and the last Sunday of June each year.
In addition to lighting and extinguishing the altar candles, acolytes in our church are also assistants to the pastor on Communion and Baptism Sundays. They ring the bell prior to worship, present the prayer request book to the pastor prior to the intercessory prayer, and distribute and receive the offering plates.
Regular meetings are held usually twice a month. With assistants Patrick Durand and Ricah Ewan, the pastor oversees the work and recreation of our acolytes group. The year ends with some kind of fun activity (in 2005, it was a pool party as well as a day at Great Adventure). Contact Pastor Doug at office@mantuaumc.org for details.
Daughters of Eve
The Daughters of Eve (DoE) is a young women's group created to foster friendships and serve the community. We work together to bring unity between the church and community by organizing and participating in philanthropy. Some of the projects we donate our time to include running an ice cream social, participation in the church craft show, and a holiday food basket collection several times a year. Some of the social outings we participate in include dinner theatre, miniature golf, and fondue parties.
The Daughters of Eve meets once a month (usually on a Sunday afternoon). If you are a young woman interested in joining the Daughters of Eve, please contact either Kim Wagner or Amy Wescott or email daughtersofeve(at)hotmail.com. You can also check out our MySpace page. We look forward to welcoming you!
Eve Circle
Eve Circle is a varied age group of women who study the word of God. We support each other through fellowship, encouraging each other through our stages of life. Some of the activities we participate in are decorating the church for Christmas, honoring our Senior members, organizing the Easter Egg Hunt, and providing the Pastor Appreciation Brunch. We also serve the community through missions. You may contact Lynn Heiss or Terri Smith if you would like more information. We look forward to welcoming new members to join us as we serve the Lord.
Promise Keepers
Formed a few years ago following a regional Promise Keepers conference, this group of men maintain a regular Bible study/intercessory prayer/fellowship breakfast meeting every first Saturday of the month at 6:00 AM. The next breakfast venue is decided before the conclusion of each month's meeting. The Promise Keepers organization is a national movement to help men understand their role within both the family and the church. Our local church's group attend the larger conferences when they are held in our area. They extend a welcome to all men interested in joining them for either the conferences or the Saturday morning breakfasts. For more information, contact David Stecklair.
United Methodist Men
An officially chartered chapter of the men's organization affiliated with the UM Church, our UMM group meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday, 7:15 PM for mutual support and ministry through our local church. The purpose is to provide a forum for men to discover ways to use their gifts in service to Christ. The Mantua chapter hosts several regular projects throughout the year, including spring and fall clean-up days in our cemetery, the annual craft fair, occasional hoagie sales, and out-of-state mission trips (most recently to North Carolina to help with hurricane clean-up). Men of all ages welcome. For more information, contact Tom Beckett.
