Second Report Saturday 3pm

Update Two - 3PM

Day two of the 30 hour famine started rather slow (Thankfully).  Dave “The Doctor” Stecklair allowed us all to sleep in.  As the group started waking up we realized just how much we take food for granted.  Most of our first thoughts were along the lines of, “I wonder what’s for breakfast?”  As the fog of sleep lifted, we remembered why we were here.  We can’t eat, not yet.  However unlike so many, we all know when our famine will end.  We hold onto the fact that tomorrow morning we WILL be able to eat.  What must it be like to not know when you will get to eat again?

Seems some of us faired the night better than others.  Some people are just not morning people

After we got ourselves freshened up, we hung out for a bit in small groups.  We hooked the X-Box up to the video projector and Frankie showed off on Guitar hero.  I have to say, the kid’s pretty good and Justin didn’t do too badly either.

After our free time we all broke out into smaller groups for some independent Bible study. I for one refreshed on the book of Philippians. Particularly Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things {including going hungry} through Christ who strengthens me”.  Philippians 4:12 especially hit home,” …In each and every situation I have learned the secret of being full and of going hungry, of having too much and of having too little.”  After the bible study we talked a bit about what we had each read.  Our group had a very spirited discussion on what exactly is the Trinity.

Then we had some free time before we started our community project.  Many of the kids practiced and decorated for the Open Mic Night tonight, and of course some other decided to play some games.

At noon we hiked and drove down to Dippy’s (once we found the keys to the van that is) to start the community project; to pick up trash along a one mile stretch of route 45. Our area was between Dippy’s and the Mantua Car wash. After a brief orientation by Dave and Terry Grabert; we split into two groups and Mantua Police Department’s finest escorted us onto the road.

I drove back and forth between the two groups who started at opposite ends.  The kids did a great job and found some interesting items including a Raccoon Skeleton, shopping cart, and a dirt bike (Which Justin claimed as his own and brought home. Hey waste not want not!)

We finished up and got back to the church at just about 3pm. Dave is letting those that want to, go home to get showered and changed for the Open Mic Night tonight. Till then we’re just doing some prep, practicing and relaxing before Greg Miller gets here to set up the sound system.

Hope to see you all here tonight.  It’s going to be a great show!

P.S Remember, it’s not too late to sponsor someone for the 30 hour famine so that others can know when their next meal is coming!
