OK Gang. I need you all to settle something for us.

how should messages (Threas) be sorted within a forum. Should the newest message be posted first (decending order) or last (asending order)

There are two schools of thought and it really comes down to preference.

The first idea is that the Newest message should always be right at the top so that the current thought is always right at the top. In this way if you are following a topic, you don't have to go far to see the most recent activity.

The other thought is that the oldest message should be first and the newest at the bottom. This way when someone unfamilar is reading the forum, it reads more like a book.

I have checked several other forumns, and they seem to be mixed.

How say you?

Here's my $0.02. The newest post at the top because that's the one that most people will be responding to. I noticed that the Church Growth thread is already on it's second page and in order to get the latest post you have to navigate to the next page. It's easy enough to do but some who haven't been to these types of forums before may get a little confused. By the way I would like to cahnge the title of the "This is nice " thread. How do I do that?

Greg, I beleive, that when you get the link to the new post, it will take you to the last post when you click it. I was the one who suggested changing the order to the present setting, becuase anyone new would have to go last to first. It was primarily for those new to the forum. Check with Bob, if you go automatically to the last post when you click on the link, I would suggest that is the way to do it..

Thanks. Everything we do should be for the non-members. If a new member signs up, they can read top to bottom. Us already in the know realize we go to the bottom for the new one. Are we done with the Greg Miller love fest on the other forum?

I certainly hope so. It would be nice to get back to the discussions, besides we all have something to offer and share with our brothers and sisters at Mantua. We're all equipped to minister in one way or another and it would be great if we all began to find those gifts, cultivate those gifts and use those gifts to strengthen the ministry of the church.
