Public theology deals with social issues from a faith perspective. As the representative, she links the congregation to conference, communicating the Social Principles of the United Methodist Church as well as opportunities to take action. In other words, public theology seeks to provide resources for people to make connections between their faith and the practical issues facing our society. Public theology rests on an attitude of humility as forgiven sinners, of loving kindness and seeking justice in order to make our prayer vow come true: “Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” However, public theology is mindful that sin is rampant in our world. Even as we seek to make a better world, we acknowledge that
the problems are overwhelming without God—we need Grace! “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God,” St. Paul writes (Romans 12:2).
